Carol’s Law Petition: Re-Diagnosis and inquest into mental health diagnosis & treatments.
My mother Carol was diagnosed with Picks disease in 2006.
Her mother Margaret died of Alzheimer’s in the late 1990’s. My sister has been diagnosed with Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), sometimes known as Hughes syndrome, a disorder of the immune system that causes an increased risk of blood clots.
My sister found information through a diagnosis of Hughes disease on her self which suggested our mums diagnosis of picks disease, a rare form of dementia, may of been the wrong diagnosis and correct checks did not take place which will of prolonged her life.
The wrong diagnosis ensured my mother went through a slow and heartbreaking demise until her death in 2011 after not having the correct treatment.
My sister has the same symptoms, doctors say it is the genetic syndrome known as Hughes disease, easily treatable by thinning out the blood, gaining more access to the brain stopping the brain dying.
Either way, somebody dealing with this type of issue would expect to be able to get an accurate assessment from the NHS leading onto life saving treatments or a longer life expectancy for dementia victims and the family’s who struggle to come to terms with losing loved ones due to mental health illnesses.
Millions of people may of fallen to wrong diagnosis preventing them from the correct medical treatment, leaving cemeteries and nursing homes full of people who may of been helped if they had been properly assessed.
Our mum was just 44 when she took sick so to be told she may of been having numerous mini strokes and suffering blood clots over the six years she was ill and we could of helped her is disturbing.
There is nothing we can do for our mum now but maybe we can help yours, I want an inquest, a new diagnosis of my mother and I want checks done properly by law.
